BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 Biters enjoy New Year's Day instead of spending it on the couch with a hangover, we'll feel like we've made one small, not-so-nauseous step for humankind.

COCKTAIL FACT

New York's not the only city with a New Year's "drop" - in Mt. Olive, NC, locals drop a 3-ft, lighted pickle into a barrel.

Is your all-night New Year's rager gonna cost you?

The Bite

It doesn't have to - hangoverwise, anyway. You might slap down a bundle for the best organic champers tonight, but these natural hangover cures will help your body get away scot-free.

The Benefits

  • Partying without paying the price. Trust us, you're gonna have a lot more fun tonight knowing you're not gonna be worshipping the porcelain goddess tomorrow.
  • A clean bill of health. According to the FDA, taking meds like Tylenol for hangover relief can actually do your body more harm than good.
  • Low-cost pain prevention. Simple methods, such as staying hydrated, can be as effective as, say, hair of the dog.

Personally Speaking

Jen's current fave recipe for avoiding hangovers: drinking the same liquor all night without any sugary mixers. Think: scotch and water.

Wanna Try?

  • Ola Loa - surprisingly tasty vitamin packets with electrolytes to help you rehydrate ($34/30 packets).
  • Jigsaw Activated B w/SRT - this sustained-release formula replaces the vitamin B your body loses when you drink ($30/120 caplets).
  • Nature's Way Opuntia - contains prickly pear extract, which helps minimize inflammation - a part of what causes your morning headache ($20/100 caplets).
  • Hangover Helper: Fight Back - its artichoke and sarsaparilla extract worked in our Happy Hour (and beyond) test ($15).
  • DIY Bite: Drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you knock back. We know it sounds hard, but works like a charm. And for all you winos: Mild allergies to sulfites in conventional wine can cause major pain, so go organic when you can.

Other-Side-of-the-Pond Hangover Remedy
Tomorrow I head out for a week in Hawaii, where I plan on spending a lot of time in the sun drinking. I'm packing some vitamin B, Ola Loa, and will be downing a lot of water while I'm there to stay hydrated, but in case of emergency I've also stuffed noneco stuff called Solpadeine in my bag.

Seriously, this stuff is ridiculous. It's basically Tylenol and caffeine, and for some reason they only sell it in the UK (meaning I stock up when visiting friends in London), but it works like nothing else.

-Toshio...off to finish packing...

Biter Comments...
How about not drinking poisonous alcoholic beverages in the first place? Why poison your body to have a good time? Alcohol kills thousands every yr. in various ways, car crashes, poisonous overdoses, wrong mixings with meds, giving ya cancers because you burn the lining of your guts etc.
I agree. I do not for the life of me understand why people drink in the first place! I feel the best cure for a hangover, is to drink green tea with honey!! It is time to grow up and tke responsibility for your own actions!
I'm with Danielle and Julie. Haven't you ever heard of VIRGIN mixed drinks, Toshio? Hawaii is meant to be enjoyed. How can you enjoy anything when you're bombed outta yer skull!

Though I can appreciate just not drinking alcohol...........on those nights when you do drink take Evening Primrose Oil with the first drink. Usually between 50-300mg in an evening and no hangover the next day..........no kidding. My splitting headaches and nausea from two glasses of wine are now gone!
Try drinking alcohol with citrus (OJ, grapefruit, etc). Stick with hi-grade (lower amount of 'filler' junk) better quality alcohols. Take extra vitamin C and eat before and after - not a lot of sugar or grease.
