Tired of alphabetizing and dusting your CD collection?

The Bite:
With the ability to download music now, you can eliminate the need to purchase CDs (and the B-side songs and plastic waste that comes along with them)!
The Benefits:
  • Get rid of unwanted titles in your collection. Every month approximately 100,000 pounds of CDs become outdated, useless or unwanted.
  • Eliminate the need for the resource-intensive process of production, packaging and distribution of disks.
  • Make someone happy by selling your CDs or giving them to friends/charity.
  • Get only the music you want. Download single tracks for $0.99 instead of buying a whole album.
Personally Speaking:
With her small apartment and iPod obsession, Heather hasn't bought an actual CD in more than 2 years. Jen received an iPod and a speaker docking station for her birthday but still listens to the radio while dreaming of finding the time to set it up.
Wanna Try:

Even if you don't have an iPod, you can switch to downloaded music on your computer (assuming you have speakers). Simply install one of the following programs, upload your CD collection and voila! - digital music:

Can't live without 'em? Keep your disks out of extreme conditions and use a mild abrasive (like toothpaste) to fix scratches, and your collection can last a long time.

I think this is totally becoming the new movement. Who would have thought that it'd start from vinyl to LPs to cassettes to CDs to nothing? I know so many people who haven't bought a CD in years. You can see the record companies responding to this slowly but it's an inevitable thing. I can't envision everyone embracing this. We still have LPs secretly playing in people's closets. But - overall - with people wanting to reduce the clutter and streamline their life, going plastic-free is the way to go. Some in-between things I've seen was albums being made of recycled paper instead of plastic. But, then, you still have the plastic CD. --- Olivia B. San Diego car accident lawyer
