Is your energy bill scarier than the ghouls and goblins that are beginning to decorate your streets? Get a security blanket.

The Bite:
If you have an older water heater, buying a water heater insulation blanket can save energy and money.  It acts as a security blanket, providing extra warmth (aww, how cute), requiring less energy to function.
The Benefits:
  • The water in the tank stays hot longer and reduces the amount of energy needed to heat the water.
  • When properly installed, it will usually pay for itself in energy saved within 1 year.
  • It’s easy - installation generally only takes about 30 mins.
Personally Speaking:
On Jen’s recent excursion to buy a do-it-yourself water heater insulation kit - two big home stores were both sold out, so she is ordering online (below).
Wanna Try:
If your heater is more than 7 years old, give it a blankie:

Cocktail Fact

Water heating uses around 20% of the energy in U.S. homes, second only to space heating.

Bang For The Bite

Blankets are relatively inexpensive ($10-$25 a kit), the time involved is minimal, and the energy (and hence eco) savings add up every month in heating bills!
