Tired of owning a car, but loathe public transportation? Now, there are options!

The Bite:
If you live in a city and don't need to drive your car every day, consider renting a car for a few hours. There are now hourly car-sharing options right in your neighborhood that make renting much easier than it was in the days when you had to get to the airport to pick up your rental. The average North American car is driven for only 66 minutes every day. We share laundromats, buses, trains, and airplanes . . . why not share cars, save money and help the environment at the same time?
The Benefits: 
Sharing a car:
  • Saves money on depreciation, insurance, maintenance and monthly parking.
  • Is better for the environment - the manufacturing of personal autos creates 7 billion pounds of non-recyclable scrap and waste each year.
  • Gives freedom from hassles of car ownership.
  • Encourages you to use public transportation and interact with people other than the radio personalities. (Sadly, though, you may get some stares on the BART when you bust out with your Joan Jett impression).
Personally Speaking: 
If you don't live in a place with easy and great public transportation offerings, this isn't really an option. In Montana, Jen has to have a car to get around. But Heather has recently decided to forego the hassle of street parking in Brooklyn and is selling her Beetle in favor of using ZipCar.

Great Point, but certain people especially the rich boy won't follow it. They even collect the cars... Buy them and just put them on the garage without using them even once.
