BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

Natural plant extracts do wonders for your skin, but unfortunately, the good stuff comes with a hefty price tag.

COCKTAIL FACT

While there's no evidence it works, tourists still line up to drink from the fountain at the Fountain of Youth National Archaeological Park in Florida.

Are you trying to tap into the fountain of youth?

The Bite

Face it (pun intended) - it's not "natural" to look 25 when you're 55. But since we're all a little vain, just use earth-friendly and chem-free methods and products to help in your quest for youth.

The Benefits

  • Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water and upping your intake of skin-nourishing vitamin E through foods like pumpkin, sesame, sunflower and flax.
  • Rejuvenate tired skin with effective plant extracts. Just a few examples: sweet almond to relieve dryness, hazelnut as a natural astringent, burdock to clear skin, and dandelion root to improve acne, eczema and psoriasis.
  • Another excuse to take a nap. Most cell repair and regeneration happens while you sleep, but these benefits are negated when you don’t get enough rest.
  • Work out your way to healthier skin. Physical activity revs up your circulation and helps you sweat out toxins that dull the skin.

Personally Speaking

After hanging with Heather for so long, Jen has now become more intrigued by the whole "face care thing," and is a huge fan of the Suki Naturals serum.

It’s Marching Across My Face…

I have such a body care products obsession.  If it scrubs, rubs, foams, smells yummy, soothes, lifts, softens, hydrates... well, count me in.

So I love today's tip.  Mainly because I can honestly say I just love all the products within it.  I HAVE all of them, and each morning and evening, it's a chore to decide which ones to use.

And these are the important questions, no?  At the same time that I am trying to determine how to halt the advance of global warming, it is also intensely important to me to halt the advance of time across my face.  (Because strangely, in the past 12 months, my ability to keep wrinkles and age at bay seems to have subsided, and suddenly: I look my age.  Bummer).

Still, I am no botox or cosmetic surgery girl, so I'm doing my best to slow this whole process down.

-Heather... off to decide whether to use Pangea or Lavera or Dr. H or Jurlique...

Biter Comments...
While I love today's tip, I was alarmed to see that wearing a good sunblock EVERY DAY was not part of it! Why not prevent sun damage (which makes us look old) in the first place instead of trying to fix it later? I'm a fan of broad-spectrum sunblocks that contain titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide - like Olay's Complete All Day UV Moisture Lotion. Not as strong as I would like (it's only got 3% zinc oxide) - and it's not exactly "natural" - but it doesn't leave that icky whiteness that products with higher zinc concentrations do. Skinceuticals also makes some good ones, but they're a little pricey.
I thought you'd like to know just how anti-aging Pangea's products are - get a load of this... ALL the ingredients that make up Pangea’s Facial Care products have a purpose. This means everything in there, including the preservatives and emulsifiers - benefit the health of your skin! That's the beauty of plant based, un-adulterated ingredeints. Pretty amazing! Here's what you should know about Pangea's Facial Care ingredients: More than 89% are antioxidants (ie anti-aging…that's huge!); More than 74% are anti-inflammatory; All of the essential oils are 100% organic; Pangea supports organic agriculture in over 50 countries - and you will too when you purchase the products; On average, it costs only $0.90 / day to use; And on a personal note, after using the products for less than a week, I have no more blackheads! Knowing all this just might help you enjoy putting Pangea on your beautiful skin even more.
Howdy from a fellow Featured Site of Typepad! We're David Byrne's bookends! : D I can't believe you have a photograph of Joel Salatin's pigs. I am seriously impressed. I work with some people who attended his intensive workshop, and who were inspired by his work to become ranchers themselves. Or "grass farmers," as they call themselves. Nice to meet you!
I have a home based buisness with Arbonne International. Arbonne is a botanically based skin care line who's logo is "Pure Safe and Beneficial". Please check out my website to see more informaion. On a personal note with my buisness, there's an option of having a percentage of sales to go to either the cat shelter I volunteer for or breast cancer awareness. Please check out my site.:-)
I'm concerned that on the day you are promoted by TypePad, I can't read most of the current entry, starting at "Are you trying to tap into the fountain of youth?" I'm using Firefox 1.5.6 (yup updated today) and the text just doesn't seem to fit within the layout. I haven't got any special settings and I'm Otaku so It's not idiot alert for me... something is messed. Friendly notice :) At least, if I select all and copy the text to notepad, I can see it.
The most pure, plant based facial & body care line out there is Weleda. And in their case, you get the best quality at an affordable price. Weleda, a Swiss company, is the world's largest user of organic Rose Oil. It is also "Fair Trade" to boot. Their Wild Rose Facial Care is the most incredible "anti-aging" skin care line, and you can't beat the pure Rose fragrance.
I have now passed through 4 decades, and am not really concerned about the fifth, nor was I about any preceding milestone. However, I would observe that, like the weather on the solstice and equinox, things tend to change surprisingly fast as each decade passes. End of June: cold, July, hot as hell, etc. When I moved from 9 to 10, I noticed how much larger I was getting. And taller, too. When I moved from 19 to 20, I noticed that instead of repelling girls, I now seemed to be attracting them. When I moved from 29 to 30, I noticed that I was such a fool when I was 20. Also, I noticed that my neck was sore from time to time when I woke up in the morning. When I moved from 39 to 40, I noticed that screen resolutions were getting increasingly large, but screens were not. I had wondered at my older sister's reading glasses, but when I tried them said "Aha!". And, like these other realizations, they all occurred at the appointed hour. I embrace these changes, and I look at skinny, gangly 20-year old girls now and think how much prettier they'll be when they have the patina and grace of years. I thought Juliette Binoche and Christie Brinkley were hotties when they were young and I was, too. And they still are. Nothing is more disturbing (to me) than a woman (or man) who has distorted their natural features through over-doing some beauty treatment. Fake boobs, overly taught skin, perfect noses, oddly perfect skin all are a bit freaky to me. Natural skin that shows the person for who they are is great. I wish more people, especially women, were comfortable with how age changes them. Taking care of your skin and body is great; attempting to defy age and nature is a bizarre and counter-productive act, in my book. Tom (not gay)

Regarding the sunscreen comment by Lara: we've been brainwashed to thing that chemical-ladden sunscreens are good for us. Skin cancer was virtually unknown in past centuries when people spent all day outdoors without sunscreen. We NEED the sun to survive. Check out this article http://www.mercola.com/2004/may/26/summer_sun.htm for some good insight. And for more info on the benefits of sun exposure, check out http://www.uvadvantage.org/home.htm Nellie
Hi Nellie. You're right - chemical-laden sunscreens are no fun. But titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are naturally-occurring physical barriers to the sun. And you're right - we do need the sun to survive. But a few minutes in the sun each day is sufficient for vitamin D production. After that, even the doctor quoted in one of the articles you mention recommends a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen to protect yourself. -Lara P.S. People have always used sun protection, even centuries ago. In fact, here in NYC, parasols seem to be making a come back!
I love this site, i am new to it, such a lot of interesting stuff. I reached 45 and i have spent time looking for the greatest product to take care of my skin. I found it made here in Australia. Miessence have over 70 products in the line and they are the first in the world to produce a skin and body care line that is certified organic. I was so impressed with this woman, i applaud her determination to produce a product that has a consumer guarantee that not one chemical has been used in her products, not even in the sterilisation of her equipment! This is the best way to prevent age signs, I am so impressed with this line. I think we need to take care of the ones we love and the planet, we need to go back to basics, how we were created. To understand every word on the bottle of a skin product has to be the ultimate in wellbeing. I have joined this company and i have set out to educate people in the dangers of chemicals in skin care. This site is a massive step in the right direction for our futures. I sell this product all round the world through a web site, this is the way to reach many people. We should send this Ideal bite site to every one we know, together we can make a diference to the future of our planet. Caz ( Australia)
As to global warming and other environmental concerns, as well harmful chemicals in majority of skin-care products, my reply is - organic and nature-friendly skin-care lines. They may be more expensive sometimes, they are not advertised as much as the leading brands, but they are much much better both for our health and Mother-Nature. Ladies, go organic!
I also would like to add that my most favorite line is LUSH. Indulge yourself, girls! :)
The chemicals in sunscreens cause cancer! UVNaturals is a company that uses only clean, natural ingredients and works really well. Use mineral makeup on your face for a total sunblock, Everyday Minerals is wonderful, all natural and very affordable. I make my own skin cleansers, find them on spacuisine.ezchef.net. Evans Garden has the best moisturizers I have ever found, they make them in small batches by hand... BTW, Arbonne products have parabens, which are highly carcenegenic.
