BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

Might not save the world, but at least you'll show green stars and studios you support their actions while getting your feature-flick fix.

COCKTAIL FACT

In a recent poll, 79% of respondents said Al Gore is the celeb who has most influenced their views on the importance of going green.

Want a sneak preview of this summer's green blockbusters?

The Bite

And...action! Sitting in an over air-conditioned theater chomping GMO popcorn isn't the #1 eco-friendliest pastime, but check out all the stars and studios turning the silver screen green in 2007.

The Benefits

  • Less pollution. The entertainment industry is the #2 polluter in Los Angeles (second only to the oil biz), so support studios that are eco-committed.
  • Entertain yourself. Movies about the environment don't have to be as boring as watching compost biodegrade.
  • Somehow, it makes that GMO popcorn with artificial butter flavor a lot more appealing.

Personally Speaking

After spotting Leo DiCaprio in person three times in a row across 2 different continents, Heather's convinced he's stalking her. Sadly, the fact that he's engaged isn't dissuading her.

Wanna Try?

  • The 11th Hour - premiering at Cannes, Leonardo DiCaprio wrote and narrates this documentary on global warming (fall).
  • Evan Almighty - the first carbon-free major comedy stars Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman (June 22).
  • Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox - the story behind the socially responsible soap company (June 29).
  • Transformers - an irony-infused action flick about robots who invade the earth only to find it's kind of an eco-dump (July 4).
  • Warner Bros. - the first big studio to build a green building.

“You’ll Never Have a ‘Real’ Relationship…”

Summer, 1996.  Writing grad school thesis while living at home with the parents.   Thesis was on the OJ Simpson verdict.  If I read the thesis now, I'd have no idea what I was even saying.

However, I DO remember one of my favorite quotes of all time... sitting in my backyard, chatting with my mom, I was probably babbling about whichever hottie celeb I was crushing on at the time (Matthew M?  David Duchovny?).  Eventually, Mom laughed, and said:

"Heather, you're never going to have a real relationship - your fantasy life is too rich and nothing could measure up."

Hilarious at the time, today, I sometimes wonder if she didn't hit that particular nail on the head.

-Heather... off to LA (NOT to stalk Leo)...

Biter Comments...
As an avid reader of TMZ.com, I am almost willing to vouch that Leo DiCaprio is NOT engaged.
How about a summer flick that's not a blockbuster, but just plain good entertainment with green values? I work with the director of a new film, DUCK http://www.duckthemovie.com that just opened in Southern California, New York and New Jersey about yes, a man and his duck. It's a truly independent film with ideal-biter ideals, but not at all preachy. It stars Phililp Baker Hall and it's worth checking out if you love indie films, animals or the eco-friendly fun.
