BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 Biters recycle their old laser cartridge, we'll save enough refined oil to fill 1,500 water-cooler jugs.

COCKTAIL FACT

Removing a small, one-color tattoo costs around $1,000 - about 10 times as much as the inking.

Will anything last longer than your "Biter 4 Life" tattoo?

The Bite

Ink cartridges will - they take eons to decompose. Recycle your old ones, and next time you buy, go with refilled cartridges, which work just like conventional ones and cost less, so you can save up for that Team Biter tatt.

The Benefits

  • Saving money. Recycled cartridges cost up to 75% less than new ones.
  • Smaller landfills. An average ink cartridge takes about 450 years to decompose.
  • Conserving oil. Recycling an ink cartridge can save 3 qt of oil.
  • Simplicity. Ordering refills online and mailing in your used ones is 99.9% easier than getting your ex-lover's name removed from your butt.

Personally Speaking

While Heather's 10-year-old tattoo does not say "Biter 4 Life," she's now considering getting our green apple logo inked on her forehead like a bindi.

Print Prevention
One way to deter someone from using so much ink and paper is to get a printer with a broken wireless card and put it in an inconvenient place in the office so that they have to physically carry the printer from one corner of the room to the other to connect it to their computer and lug it back again when they're done. Or so I've heard.

Biter Comments...
I would be interested in finding out if anyone is refilling ink cartridges (formally regular ink) with soy ink or other alternative inks. That would be great to add to today's tip about recycling print ink cartridges.
I tried the new Walgreen's refill cartridge now my printer won't print. I have had my son look at them he is computer literate so today I am returning .
I haven't researched it, but it seems that with all of the places refilling ink cartridges, it's more "green" to refill your existing cartridge (recycled or not) than to recycle your cartridge and buy a recycled cartridge. Walgreens & Costco both come to mind, but I'm sure there are other places, too.
PetSmart has prepaid mailing envelopes for used inkjet cartridges (no Epson) and also old cell phones. 100% of monies goes to PetSmart charities.
I have a small business and have been refilling my ink cartridges through for 2 years through www.lasermonks.com. The monks operate the business to support their good works so I feel great knowing my purchase is helping others. They accept cartridges and refill them. You can also request prayers for your business or anything else. Prices are reasonable and the service is unmatched! Read their story at http://www.lasermonks.com/index.php?main_page=about_us
I just got a new printer in my office that uses SOLID INK. A new technology that will eliminate the need for cartridges all together. Not a cheap printer though and commercial model, but who uses more than a business. Hoping it works well. Xerox 8650 model Color Laser
Hey, don't want to sound like a KIA (know-it-all) but i work in the refilling industry. Its widely thought that returning cartidges to the manufacturer isn't environmentally sound. There's the transportation of the cartridge both ways, and the speculation that they offer the service not as a responcibility, but simply because getting the cartridges off the market prevent them from being re-used, which is very ANTI-enviro. The best ways to prevent waste is to either print less (duh) or bypass cartridges altogether.
How do you bypass cartridges?
Any tips for personal laser printers that don't use ink but use a toner cartridge? I haven't seen a place to "refill" these. Thanks!
Has anyone had success refilling their cartridges at Walgreens or elsewhere? I'd like to do it, but am kind of skeptical.
One more thing about recycling cartridges-you can take them to Officemax(or a place like that) & they will give you $3.00/per cartridge up to 5 per day. I did that when I needed a new Norton Antivirus & it saved me $15.00 off of the price(on sale too!!) They were from my old printer& are a different size cartridge than the ones that my printer now takes. They also can refill our cartridges there too. I will probably use Walgreens refills because they are cheaper. The lady did say that they can be refilled 4-5 times. And no I do not work for Officemax. Eric-how do you bypass cartridges??
yes, that is true, and also, if you take your old cartridges back to the store, like staples, the give you 3$ coupons for each one, but only up to 10 at a time, and the coupons are good for 3 months and can be used towards anything ing in the store to.
Emily I could not use the Walgreens refills in my printer at all. When I returned them the lady told me that she had her same problem but her daughter over road what the printer was saying.
well, first , with those ink cartridges at walmart they may not be good, because those are refilled cartridges and you do have to make sure you have the right cartridge be cause if you dont they will damage your printer, try this and if it does work, ill tell you what else you can do, be cause it also myight be the memory needs to be cleared on your printer ok,that stops it from working to because it keeps a log on everything you do ok. I fix computers, so i can help you if you want. let me know ok.
Did you know that Walgreens pharmacy will refill empty ink catridges for about half the price of new ones? I love it! Takes about 5 minutes.
Ooops - didn't see everyone else's comments on there about Walgreens, so nevermind! :-)
I bought my Panasonic toner cartridge from http://www.uniteddigitalsolutions.com/. They have promos & discounts on inks & cartridges.
i think so too. It will last if you just take care of it by cleaning it properly, as it said in here Inkjet Refills
Cut the expensive cost of your ink cartridge without cutting out the quality! High cost is not equivalent to product quality. So cut the cost but enjoy the same convenience. This is the answer. ____________________ www.mywestwood.com
Lowest price on printer cartridges with the same quality as compared to the expensive ones is the best measurement of reliable printer cartridges. _____________ www.uniteddigitalsolutions.com
Remanufactured printer cartridges are essentially recycled inkjet cartridges. They have been inspected, cleaned, and refilled with ink. They are typically print tested before they are sold to ensure that they are in excellent working condition. Remanufactured cartridges are usually less expensive than compatible print cartridges, which in turn are less expensive than OEM brand name ink cartridges. ___________________ www.uniteddigitalsolutions.com
