The Bite:
Freecycle is a network of 1.5 million people connected via online community groups who give and/or receive stuff for free in their own hometowns everyday. Everything from toys, to computers, to household items is available in an online, always-on garage sale for free stuff. Number of Freecycle Communities as of today: 3,023.
The Benefits: 
  • Keeps stuff from going into the landfills.
  • Reuse/recycle means less need for virgin material, and it reduces the strain on valuable resources, such as fuel, forest and water supplies.
  • Promotes a sense of community spirit, and teaches kids (and, um, er, adults - see Personally Speaking) the importance of giving.
Personally Speaking: 
Neither of us has used Freecycle, because we are horribly mercenary and want the tax write-offs we get for donating to Goodwill. But many Biters have written in to say they love it - especially for bigger items like furniture that no one wants to haul on their own.

Wow, I just checked out the site, and I must say, I was completely unaware of how huge the community was. People go crazy for anything free I guess, lol. It's like those free stuff websites. People just love anything free. Oh memories of college campus and taking anything free I could get, lol.
