BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

We really like taking money back from the government. The eco-benefits are just a really good bonus...

COCKTAIL FACT

In '94, a man upset by the IRS's refusal to allow deductions for all 3 of his kids threatened to turn 2 of them over to the feds. The IRS decided to allow the deductions.

Whose turn is it to collect?

The Bite

Come tax season '08, it'll be your turn to play tax collector if you buy a hybrid, go solar, or update your home in '07.

The Benefits

  • Get your share of the $14 billion Congress put aside for people who buy hybrids, install solar panels or green their homes, available through '09 or '10.
  • Save on gas and electric bills. Whether it's a new car, solar panels or storm doors, the savings add up quick.
  • One more excuse to sport a new ride (get as much as $4,000 back) or replace that awful energy-suck you call a water heater (get as much as $300 back).

Personally Speaking

This year, Jen's looking forward to refunds on the new windows she installed in her home, while Heather's deducting big time for the Prius she bought last year. Tax savings for green things are better than our BFF, "Mr. Clearance Sale."

Once Again, My Car Needs a Name

So, I bought a Prius.

For whatever reason, this makes me feel like a middle-aged mom. While I love the fact that I only have to put gas in it about every 5 weeks, I haven't gotten attached to it enough to name it yet. Trixie (my biodiesel Benz) - she got her name in the first week I had her. Mr. NoName Prius, on the other hand, has been around for nearly 3 months now, and I still have no idea what to call him/her.

Thoughts?

Still - I get a full tax CREDIT - not even a write off - so I can't complain.

-Heather... off to stare at my Prius and pray for naming inspiration...

Biter Comments...
So, you can't figure out what sex the car is. That's the beginning of the issue, isn't it? :-) But I note that you're currently referring to the car is Mr. NoName, so it must be a boy. Congratulations! Maybe since he's birthing a tax credit, you could call him Ira. Or if his energy turns into a female you could call her Iva. "Iva Prius, what do you have?" It occurs to me that I've not named my last two cars, yet with both I didn't feel much ownership. When I get rid of the one I have now and get a hybrid, that one will belong to *me* and therefore will have a name...
How about: a) Wonder Babe (for both of you guys? To underline positive feminine efficiency?) or b) EcoZippy (fast and clean)
I just became a biter today - my sister told me about a receiving a hybrid-related email and I had to join. Then I tried searching for today's email and found this - it's been a long time since this was originally posted, but maybe you still need a name. My teenage daughters named our Prius "Maggie" because of the excessive beeping that goes on when I'm backing out of the drive way and they haven't buckled up yet. It's their nice way of saying the car is a Nag - friendlier than "Naggie". We've put over 32K miles on her in a year and our Maggie is the favorite ride of our all our carpoolers.
I say name it Naruto! :D Naruto Anime
