The Bite:
Want best in show laptop accessories? Mark your territory with gear like cases and trays made from eco-materials.
The Benefits:
  • Ensuring a healthy planet for future pups. Way too many computer products are made from carcinogenic PVC, so opt for stuff like highly renewable bamboo, recycled plastic, and fast-growing hemp when you can.
  • Doggone functional accessories. Whether you need to protect your laptop, keep it cool, or travel with it, there's an ecofied case, fan, or memory stick to match.
Personally Speaking:
After someone stole a few of the laptops in our office, we've all taken to bringing them home in GreenSmart and Timbuk2 gear most nights.
Wanna Try:
  • Timbuk2 Wiki Laptop Case - hemp and recycled-plastic case with a handle; includes a storage pocket for your paper docs ($28).
  • GreenSmart Neogreene Laptop Sleeves - lightweight recycled polyester sleeve. Feels like neoprene (synthetic rubber); nine sizes, so you can def find a perfect fit ($25-$40).
  • Natural High Lap Table - comfy hemp and organic cotton sack filled with buckwheat hulls; naturally adjusts to your lap, covered with bamboo ($98).
  • EarthDrive - überportable, recycled plastic, 8GB USB memory stick for transferring files from your laptop to others; proceeds support tree plantings ($36).
  • Macally EcoFan - just-released bamboo laptop stand with built-in fans (powered by your laptop's USB port) so your baby doesn't overheat and your legs don't get fried, and at 5 volts, it uses the same amount of energy as non-eco alternatives ($33).
  • Kena Kai FELTech Computer Sleeve - sleeve made from recycled plastic bottles. Its material's soft and feltlike; four colors, made for 13.3-inch laptops ($30).

Cocktail Fact

Released in 1975, the first commercially available portable computer, the IBM 5100, weighed 55 pounds.

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Biters buy a laptop sleeve made from recycled instead of nonrecycled material, we'll keep 60,000 plastic bottles out of landfills.

I don't have a laptop, but I was glad to find out some affordable options. Thanks again, Ideal Bite. I always enjoyed voting on the tip, did you delete that option on your new format??
There are a lot of great instructions/pics/videos on instructables.com that show how to make your own laptop bag, case, skin, etc. that include reusing or recycling materials!
I ordered the 15.4 Kena Kai laptop case (in grey and turquoise!!) and was SO HAPPY with it - until I tried to use it. I guess they have had some problem with the production and all the 15.4 cases are about 1/2 an inch too small. But, their customer service was SO GOOD and the product is SO GORGEOUS that I am actually going to wait until they have re-released this size and try it again. They did say that there is NO problem with the 13.3's however. I would recommend Kena Kai, even if my laptop will be naked for another 6 to 8 weeks...
