BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 Biters use GoodSearch just twice a day, in a year we'll raise $73,000 for good causes.

COCKTAIL FACT

Internet users perform almost 8 bil searches per month.

Can you help the planet just by searching the web?

The Bite

We don't just think you can. We know you can. Little search engines that could support your fave causes and save energy - and are as free and as easy to use as Google.

The Benefits

  • The same good results. These search engines pull their results from the Google or Yahoo databases.
  • Donating to charity. Get on the donation train - each search you do via a charity search engine generates about $0.01 for good causes (the money comes from the ads on search-engine sites).
  • Saving energy. Some engines have a dark background color instead of white, which when viewed on older, CRT monitors - consumes 20% less energy than typical engines.

Personally Speaking

We consider using GoodSearch when googling our own names a vanity offset.

Wanna Try?

  • GoodSearch - powered by Yahoo, it donates 50% of revenues to a charity you choose each time you search.
  • Blackle - an unofficial black version of Google that uses less energy than the white version on some screens (for a more colorful option, try The Green Spider).
  • CatchTomorrow - customizable news, weather, and search options; donates 50% of revenues to the public school district of your choice.
  • Green Maven - though it's not for charity, this Google-based search engine yields results from green-related websites only.

Google-Stalkers
Thanks to search engines, it takes all of 15 seconds to find out what arch-nemeses, past boyfriends, and classmates voted most likely to succeed are up to. And if you tell me you've never Google-stalked anyone, I'll tell you you're lying.

I Google most of the people I date - usually before the first time we go out. I'm guessing many of them have done the same. Kind of weird that we're in a world where you know so-and-so's mom's maiden name before the first make-out session.

-Toshio...off to get voted most likely to spend tonight all by his lonesome...

Biter Comments...
Here's another search for good site: http://www.searchkindly.org/
As a internet browser and wildlife lover, I encourage everyone who reads this to not use GoodSearch.com. They are powered by Yahoo, who owns Alibaba.com. This internet store front sells SHARK FINS. For those who don't know, this is the most horrendous and atrocious act to which we are subjecting our oceans. The following links are provided for you to see for yourself. http://www.underwatertimes.com/news.php?article_id=37541060289 http://tinyurl.com/2zzyzw As a past user of Yahoo! and GoodSearch I have ceased using their services and have forwarded my thoughts on the matter. We need to put pressure on the companies that count to make wise, environmentally sound decisions. In my opinion, Yahoo! is not doing so. Please look for yourself and make your decision accordingly. Thanks for joining me at my soapbox!
If you'd like to know why black backgrounds on search engines save money on CRT monitors but not on LED monitors, I made a video about it: Blackle, Does It Realy Work? for my web video show: www.realworldgreen.com thx, eric
Before you do any holiday shopping this season I'd encourage you to check out GoodShop.com (this is a sister-site to GoodSearch).

I recently bought a new backpack and some other gear at Patagonia and 3.5% of the purchase price was donated by GoodShop to the Best Friends Animal Society (I alternate between this organization and the Surfrider Foundation).

It basically takes an extra click to get to the store you want, but well worth it in my opinion. Apple, the GAP, REI and lots of other stores are on-board.
For GoodSearch.com, we should use it to promote charity as for Alibaba.com that is THEM you have to boycott and send them requests to stop shark fins selling and also to Yahoo! From now one, I am boycotting Alibaba.com anyhow... Thanks for telling us...
Dear Pascal gillon BASc, Good point on promoting the charity work and philosophy behind GoodSearch. I guess I should have specified that I used GoodSearch to earn money for the organization I volunteer with. I have since removed our name from the list and started using similar search engines. GoodSearch (ultimately Yahoo!) are earning the money to donate to organizations through advertisement. If the number of people searching these sights decline due to outrage of their ethics, the advertisers will follow suit. I'm not forcing anyone to not use such an easy method to earn money for their favorite organization. I am encouraging the people working with the organizations to use a different site besides GoodSearch. I guess my thought process sounded better in my head! hahahaha
Goodsearch is powered by Yahoo. Check out www.humanrightsusa.org and Yahoo's involvement in jailing of Chinese reporters, and civilians.
after reading this tip i was surprised to see how much of the screen is white on this site. food for thought...
Wow, the post was very impressive and even I am going to help the planet in such a way of design. http://www.theclickdepot.com/internet-marketing-services.html
