BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 Biters opt for a 4-oz bottle of the eco-stuff rather than the typical synthetic variety, we'll avert the weight of 17 scurvy-laden sailors in questionable chems.

COCKTAIL FACT

Legend says that the South American island of Curacao ("cure" in Portuguese) got its name after soldiers with scurvy, who explorer Amerigo Vespucci dropped off to die, ate the island's vitamin C-rich fruit and lived.

Wanna C someone you probably haven't seen in a while?

The Bite

C a renewed you - just dab on some eco vitamin-C personal care products for fresher skin in no time. You'll C what we mean.

The Benefits

  • Preventing skin damage. Antioxidants in vitamin C block damage from free radicals (byproducts of our bodies' natural processes that are responsible for aging).
  • C-ing beautiful skin. Vitamin C-infused skin-care products help brighten, clarify, and reduce redness.
  • Avoiding unhealthy chems.  Our picks steer clear of formaldehyde, parabens, and petrolatum, which are linked to allergies and cancer.

Personally Speaking

Take it easy: A couple of us did vitamin C product testing over the course of a few months - daily, and sometimes more often - and ended up with little red bumps. Yes, even your skin can OD on vitamins, so go easy 'til you know what works for you.

Wanna Try?

  • Eminence Couperose-C Serum - pure plant concoction (with soothing camphor and marshmallow root) that gets the red out when your skin's irritated ($42).
  • Zia Papaya Enzyme Mask - its papaya packs additional antioxidants that renew your skin cells, while honey moisturizes; use weekly to give your skin a wakeup call ($25).
  • Weleda Wild Rose Intensive Eye Cream - not exactly a lid-lift, but its jojoba does help smooth out fine lines around your peepers ($25).

C, Tea, and Me

What's white, red, and often blotchy all over? My skin. Hypersensitivity central, it reacts to everything-one could say I wear my heart on my nose, even. A few of my skincare products contain vitamin C, but one of my best methods for de-rose-ifying (or de-flaming-red-ifying, more like) is internal: drinking a cup of vitamin-C-rich green tea.

Now, I actually don't really like the taste of most greens, but I found a delicious loophole in Numi Jasmine Green, very lightly steeped.

Biter Comments...
Tips like this frustrate me because it seems like they are very specifically geared toward selling us consumables that we don't need. Ideal Bite is a great resource, but I like to think it exists to help me change my lifestyle and not to help me latch on to the latest greenwashed consumer eco craze.
There are a lot of products, too many if you ask me, that give the appearance of being "natural". If you're experiencing sensitivity, take a good look at what you're using. Parabens, sodium laurel/laureth sulfate, propyl glycol, and other common ingredients can be very irritating. If you would like to see just how "natural" your products are, check the Environmental Working Group databased called "Skin Deep" http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com.
I use a little Avon's Clearly C to calm the redness on my cheeks. It works.

Yet another suggested group of V.P.P. (Very Pricey Products) from the Bite. (Ideal Bite must pay their staff very well if you can afford many of the products you suggest in your tips.) Also, what's the deal with skin care manufacturers always trying to sell us on us face creams that smooth out the "fine lines." To heck with the "fine lines"! I want something that'll smooth out the deep creases!
for skin problems I advice avon's body cream
Please consider Avon Products VERY carefully as they do contain parabens and use non-organic, synthetic ingredients and chemicals. The product itself could exacerbate the problem.
I can relate to "Red, White and Blotchy all over", as I have been that most of my life. My best skin soother packs a double whammy - Chammomile Tea. Mine comes from Germany (where it is not expensive, even with the exchange rate) by way of a friend. It has soothed jangled nerves, both internally and externally for myself and my dogs (more externally there, but they have sipped a bit of it!)
i agree, green tea is very healthy. the vitamin shoppe store
My skin is also sensitive, everything i use on my face should be hypo-allergenic. I will try the green tea thing, i hope it helps. Motorcycle Fairings
