Feel a little queasy when you hear, "don't drink the water?"

08.14.2006

The Bite:
We were going to make a toilet joke, but wasting half your trip in the bathroom is no laughing matter (trust us). When your travels take you places where the H2O is less than pristine, pack a portable water purifier and sip with confidence.
The Benefits:
  • Boil no more. Like boiling, true water purifiers eliminate the bacteria (E. coli), parasites (Giardia, Cryptosporidium) and viruses (hepatitis) that can cause waterborne illnesses. But beware - simpler water "filters" aren't effective against viruses.
  • Get your water ultra-clean with gadgets that use ultraviolet (UV) light - not chemicals like chlorine and iodine - to kill the creepy critters in your cup. (And don't forget to recycle the batteries ).
  • Banish the bottle. With global consumption of bottled water at over 40 billion gallons, the world is already awash in plastic empties.
  • Enjoy your trip! Travel is no fun when you're sick, so stay hydrated and healthy.
Personally Speaking:
After carefully purifying her drinking water daily while traveling through Asia, Heather then ate some uncooked veggies in Cambodia and spent 4 days locked in the bathroom. She's not too bright sometimes.

Cocktail Fact
