BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 Biters enjoy New Year's Day instead of lying on the couch with a hangover, we'll feel like we made one small, non-nauseated step for man and woman-kind...

COCKTAIL FACT

New York's not the only city with a New Year's "drop" - in Mt. Olive, NC they drop a pickle.

Wanna avoid that New Year's Day hangover?

The Bite

It's possible, but you gotta be prepared. Conventional methods like taking Tylenol actually do more body damage, so try some natural ways to make your body hate you less.

The Benefits

  • Stop hangovers before they start. Drink water (dehydration's the reason for your headache) and take B vitamins (depleted by alcohol) to reduce the after-effects of partying too hard.
  • Get rid of symptoms. Reduce your body's inflammatory response to booze with sarsaparilla and prickly pear extract.
  • Better for your liver. Mixing OTC painkillers like Tylenol is a recipe for liver disaster, according to the FDA.

Personally Speaking

Sara's recipe for avoiding hangovers (after years of dedicated testing): Activated B and Fight Back Hangover Helper a couple hours before getting the party started, a big glass of water before bed, and sleeping in past 10 the next day. (And, well, a good grease-fest at breakfast the next morning.)

Wanna Try?

Finally… almost a solution to the oh-so-dreaded hangover

Okay, so back in the day Heather and I tried an all natural hangover helper that I found online, and well, while we had fun trying it for the first half (ie: the night before), the second half just sucked.  And it was a hot, sticky July day in NYC, and we had lots of work to do.  Eww.  Hell.

Finally we found one that really works.  It is called Fight Back.  And it is my new best friend.

Ever since entering my 30's, the saddest thing has been my loss of ability to drink all night and then go run and play and work just fine the next day.  Now if I have a bottle of wine, forgetaboutit. The next day is just toast.

However, being the diligent (and slightly drunkie) Biter that I am, I tried (and then retried) this product.  And it worked so well that I now tell everyone I know about it, because come on, who doesn't just LOATHE a hangover?   Sure, you could drink less.  But life is short and I am pretty good on the whole, so I am not about to take away one of my true joys... a good bottle of a wine and a good buzz.

Off to make New Years plans... and yes, they will definitely involve making sure I take my Fight Back before getting too nuts that night.  - Jen

Biter Comments...
I take a homeopathic remedy for my GERD and on the label it says that it also relieves the "Adverse effects of excessive slcohol and nicotine consumption." I confess, I have not been able to try it for that, but it is fabulous for the GERD. Its called Gastricumeel, produced by the -Heel company. The main ingredient is nux vomica...seems telling doesn't it? Happy Holidaze biters!
I always keep a bag of Kettle Chip's organic "Salt & Pepper" chips in my cupboard. I have found that the salt heavy chips replenish the much needed "electrolytes" in my body, and a glass of gatorade (I keep the powdered stuff in the same cupboard) helps as well. Being Scottish, German, and Irish I'm required to drink everything from whiskey to beer, sometimes at the same time, so I know what I' talking about.
Here's another FAB thing i'm surprised wasn't mentioned. Young Coconut water, which i see everywhere now in nyc. It has lots of electrolytes. the trick is to drink all this stuff before bed. by morning, it's too late. i used to drink gatorade before passing out (which works like a charm by the way) but then i wanted something that didn't quite glow in the dark.) also, you can actually buy liquid electrolytes. you just mix it with water. hmm.. what else, eating simple food before sleeping, like bread and cheese without condiments and vegetables. the fat and bread absorbs the alcohol. anyone ever try tomato juice? i love a bloody mary at brunch, but i've never tried it for hangover. okay. happy imbibing. and happy morning after...
Big Banana Juice Bar recommends a "hangover cure" of pineapple, mango, banana, and orange juices in combination, saying they replace lost B vitamins, help flush out harmful byproducts, and rehydrate. http://www.thebigbananajuicebar.co.uk/
Hey guys, Coffee is a good combatant for wine as well. So, head on down to the store and get some organic coffee and drink some before the nasty black-eyed peas and greens. Happy New Year.
Hi guys, Ultima Replenisher... a no sugar, sweetened with stevia, electrolyte replenishing, mineral mix... is perfect!!! http://www.ultimareplenisher.com/ it is good just for everyday use to, non sugary drink for your kids, and if your an athlete... there ain't anything that will beat it. Oh, and many yummy flavors!!! Happy New Years from Canada!
so where does one purchase the 'fight back' remedy besides online? wild oats? whole foods? the coop? is it available anywhere besides the internet? and the young coconut water idea is great. delicious and nutricious.
A hangover is caused by low blood sugar levels in the brain. Simple cure? Eat something sweet such as honey or chocolate.
I live in Michigan and put astro lawn in my back yard. It is wonderful!!! I wish I had put it in the front now also. I use a leaf blower to blow the many leaves off it or sometimes I take the shop vac to get the pine needles up. The neighbors laugh at me vacuuming the lawn! No watering, no fert., no weeds, no moles. Oh ya, I also have 2 dogs-no problem. Everyone comments how nice my back yard looks and I ususally have to tell new visitors that it is not real.
I found that if I each a couple of slices of bread before I started drinking I never got a hangover. Or if I remembered to eat sometime in the middle of all that drinking, I never suffered a hangover.
I swear by white tea! Drink a couple mugs of white tea before you go to bed after your night of drinking. It's amazing. You want to drink good quality organic white tea though. Check out these studies. I keep the Long Life brand on hand since I'm a big tea lover anyway. (nothing like a couple of jasmine dragon pearl tea. mmmm.)
