Is there anything more sickeningly sweet (literally) than those chalky candy conversation hearts?

The Bite

Good thing there are better ways to say BE MINE than on anatomically-incorrect candy hearts - give organic flowers and chocolates. Don't worry, your Valentine will still get the message.

The Benefits

  • Slightly more romantic than a (frankly inedible) candy heart.
  • Better for the earth. In CA alone, almost 800,000 lbs of pesticides are used on conventional flower farms each year.
  • Better for your TRUE LOVE's body. Organic candy and flowers are almost free of pesticide residue.

Personally Speaking

15 years. That's how long it's been since Heather has had a Valentines Day where she A) had a boyfriend, B) found herself in the same city as said boyfriend, and C) actually managed not to break up or get dumped over the course of the evening. Maybe organic flowers from the Bite will be the cure?

15 Years Sounds Like a Long Time

So funny - writing today's tip, I did the math for the Personally Speaking.  Suddenly, I realized that it really has been FIFTEEN years (something about spelling it out seems right) since I had a Valentines where I wasn't traveling or it wasn't long distance or I wasn't single and toasting to myself/my girlfriends/some random flirtation.

For whatever reason, while noteworthy, this fact doesn't bother me at all.  Valentine's doesn't bother me at all.  On the contrary... I kind of love the day.

A celebration of love and romance and hot looks and all the simple and complex ways that we say "I sign up for you" each and every day?

Sign me up - it's a thing so worth celebrating.

-Heather... off to find perfect flowers to prep for Valentines...

Biter Comments...
my first romantic memory is having a secret admirer on valentine's. then i became a secret admirer on the next valentine's and that was even more thrilling. so my partner and i decided we needed to put the secret back into admirer and bring back a little passion for a delicious organic valentine's at www.thegroovymind.com !
If you're going to talk about Valentine's day, what could be better than organic AND fair trade? This way you spread the love to not only your loved one, but the people who are making the treats that we buy in the "developed" world by giving them a fair price. Come on, Ideal Bite. You guys need to focus on sustainability (organic, fair trade) and not just the myopic view of only environmentally-friendliness.
Just wanted to add on an INCREDIBLE organic chocolate company - Lillie Belle Farms! Their lavendar sea salt caramels are heavenly! Check them out: http://www.lilliebellefarms.com (and no, I don't work for them!)
It's been way longer than 15 years since I've gotten a serious valentine from anyone other than a grandchild. I prefer organic WINE and a good DVD from Netflix. I've already scheduled "Ant Bully"....
You know, I saw those nasty things the other day when I was trying to plan out what to get for the children in my daughter's preschool class. Honestly, I stood over them for a few minutes and thought well the packaging is good, the price is good. Then, I snapped back to my senses and said to myself...even a kid wouldn't like those things. I wish they could package something that actually tasted edible in those things.
My current favorite chocolate company is Theo Chocolate (http://www.theochocolate.com/). Bread & Chocolate, in the 3400 Phinney line, is positively amazing.
Ok, just had to say that I loved the subject line of this tip! Someone needs to come up with those. I appreciate this yearly celebration of love, however it is usually up to my single self to provide the goodies. I am all for the organic and fair trade chocolate and/or flowers to spoil myself with!
Look forward to seeing more in the near future. It was a relieve to find some information about this famousartist. I think that this is a really neat place even though I am trying to find big naturals tiffany pages for my reasearch paper for art.
