The Bite:
Ready for a peek at the latest eco-sneaks? Check out these new women's styles made from materials like recycled plastic before the general public gets a look…
The Benefits:
  • Fresh releases. Get ready to impress anyone who happens to look down.
  • Putting the planet ahead of the game. Recycled plastic, natural rubber, organic cotton, and eco-leather are all better for you and the environment than conventional materials, since they cut back on waste and avert pesticides and synthetic chems during production.
  • Being the first to get into gear. Cute sneakers to wear ought to give you a little motivation for getting off your butt and doing something active.
Personally Speaking:
Hanah sticks by the style rule that you don't buy shoes for the comfort factor, but thinks Simple's new sneaks are a pretty good combo of style and comfiness.
Wanna Try:
  • Simple Shoes CARry On - boho-style sneaks with mini-leg-warmer-ish knit top; made with eco-suede, hemp, and organic cotton, and has a recycled car-tire sole; four colors ($85).
  • Veja Volley - classic, unisex Volley athletic-styled sneaks now in new colors (we're feelin' the navy gray). Made from organic cotton, rubber from rubber trees (rather than plastic synthetics), and leather tanned with no synthetic chems; click Stores on V's site to find places to buy ($145).
  • Terra Plana Yukam - the company uses recycled rubber for the soles of these supercomfy slip-ons; four colors ($110). Enter the code IdealBiteVivo during checkout, and get 20% off anything in its Vivo line. Offer ends Sep. 30.
  • Keds Willow - basic sneaks made with materials like recycled rubber, nontoxic dyes, and recycled plastic laces; three colors ($55).

Cocktail Fact

The Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star is the biggest-selling shoe in history - more than 750 million pairs sold.

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Biters opt for a pair of shoes with recycled-rubber soles (rather than nonrecycled), we'll keep the weight of 152 shoe models in car tires out of landfills.

I wish I could afford these. *sigh* What's the point in trying to create 'green product' if ordinary peeps can't buy them? Yes, I am employed. In health care, hands on patient care. Yes, I am a single parent, shop local and have a garden that feeds my daughter and me. We recycle, compost, buy in bulk at the co-op, and make ends meet, barely.
I agree with Erika. Like you, I try to do what I can to improve the environment and to leave a better earth for my grandchildren, but have found most "green items" to be costly and beyond my means. We need some "green" items for folks who are budget conscious.
I like the idea of buying items from recycled goods. There is a small problem, that being the price. I believe more people would opt for clothing or other items available from recycled goods if the price was lower. I would not pay the money for sneakers from recyled goods just because of the price.
The information you posted about louis vuitton is so useful, I am expecting for your next post. Nice articles, but I am not clear about the point you mentioned about how to distinguish fake and real cheap louis vuitton.
Nice article, very helpful. Thanks!

Being environmentally friend is a fad, for some. i guess, simple things in and around your household can make a huge difference. Seeing you, others may actually want to enact the same- wouldn't that be wonderful. i am pro-enviro but i don't know how much am i contributing - small steps might count too...
