BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

Despite the strict regulations, comfort doesn't have to end with your bag of non-organic pretzels or peanuts - just take a few eco-items along for the ride.

COCKTAIL FACT

Fear of flying is the third most common phobia, after fear of spiders and fear of social situations. Snakes don't make the Top 10.

What CAN you carry-on?

The Bite

Thanks to recent events, the list of items not allowed on planes is longer than ever (and yes, that list includes snakes). Slip these TSA-approved items into your carry-on to make your flight as bearable as possible.

The Benefits

  • The humidity on long distance flights regularly falls to 10-20% of what is considered comfortable for people. Stay smooth with solid skin and lip moisturizers - liquids need not apply due to the new rules.
  • Air travel can lead to disrupted sleep patterns, so find a way to relax. Music works wonders, and personal electronic devices like iPods are still legit on US flights - for now.
  • Speaking of relaxation, we suggest one more item that won't be confiscated before you reach the jet bridge - soothing sleep masks.

Personally Speaking

Heather is NOT looking forward to next month's 11 hr flight to Italy (although she IS really looking forward to the wine). No one at the Bite feels too sorry for her, really.

“My Lips Hurt Real Bad”

Would love to pretend I just pulled that Napoleon Dynamite quote out of thin air, but in reality, I'm stealing it from a friend who used it recently to reference the new challenges in air travel.

And challenging, it is.  Today's tip actually bumped an earlier scheduled tip on great eco-travel items to take on flights: essential oils (nope), luscious tubes of lotion (not on your life), SIGG water bottles (uh-uh), and eye drops (no way).

Of course, I understand completely the need for the new regs.  We'd all rather be dehydrated than the alternative.

But really... how am I supposed to rehydrate myself after I drink all those little teeny bottles of wine during my flight to Italy next month?

-Heather... off to draw a picture of a Liger...

Biter Comments...
hey I thought lip stuff wasn't allowed? ie no burt's bees, shea butter, etc cuz it fell under "no liquid or gels". maybe I was wrong?
apparently small containers of eye drops are ok, but no carmex, blistex, lotions, creams, etc http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#1
I'm not really sure how this is an environmental tip as it seems more like a buying and packing recommendation.....perhaps not flying at all...lessen carbon emissions...
