Toning Exercise

The Bite:
Want a skin balancer with some real muscle? No sweat: Try our top facial toner picks, made with planet-friendly ingredients. They'll workout.
The Benefits:
  • Active skin beautification. These toners balance your skin, remove excess oil without drying too much, and even tighten your pores a bit.
  • Not screwing up your gym bunny body. Our faves forgo unhealthy ingredients such as parabens (preservatives) and triethanolamine (a skin smoother).
  • A fitter planet. Lest ye forget, fewer bad chems on your body = fewer down the drain = fewer that'll end up in nature.
Personally Speaking:
Hanah, our resident facial products tester, uses toner as a skin balancer before going out for a night on the town.
Wanna Try:
For combo skin
  • Kiss My Face Balancing Act - balances with seaweed extract and essential oils, and ousts oil with witch hazel; lemon-y fragrance ($14/5.3 ounces).

For oily skin
For dry skin
  • Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist - citrus-smelling spray-on toner with aloe and grape extracts that's great for a quick freshening up ($22/6 ounces).
  • Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - great, flowery-smelling (but not overwhelming) toner with lots of skin renewing vitamin E and moisturizing aloe ($21/6.7 ounces).

  • DIY Bite: add a few drops of skin-calming lavender essential oil with distilled water in a 1-ounce spray bottle, stick it in the fridge, and spray it on your face with abandon.

Cocktail Fact

Nintendo's Wii Fit exercise game is the fifth best-selling video game of all time.

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Biters opt for a 5-ounce bottle of eco-toner instead of the conventional stuff, we'll avert the weight of 113 gym weight machines in questionable chems.

The cleanest and most wonderful skin and hair care I have found is KEYS-SOAP.COM. They also have a pet line!!!!!
Witch hazel alone works just great and its only a few dollars for 16 oz verses 20 or more. I have combo skin and as long as you moisturize after it does not dry the skin. It also will get rid of a pimple if you catch it right away.
For those biters who don't have 35 dollars for 3 ounces... Why not just try plain old witch hazel as a toner? Almost every brand of toner available has a base of witch hazel which you can get at Sally Beauty Supply for about 3 dollars (16.7 ounces) . (If you want to fancy it up you can add a few drops of essential oil and it does exactly the same thing as the ridiculously overpriced toner mentioned above.) Let's not perpetuate the myth that being environmentally conscientous costs 35 dollars for less than 4 ounces....
If 5000 people simply left their skin alone with a quick wash in the morning, how much would we save? How much less polution would be produced without the bottle, tube or spray? What's wrong with a face that looks like a face?
For my money, he best toner you can get is Aubrey Organics' Vegecol with Aloe Alcohol-Free Facial Toner. Super gentle, yet incredibly effective. LOVE it.
I have used Dickinson's Witch Hazel for 30 years and love it. It can be found at almost any retail drug store and the cost is unbeatable. I just cannot see paying $35 for a "brand name" product when I can get great results for less than $5.
I agree that plain ol' witch hazel works great. When I was a pre-teen, I went to Barbazon, and they said to use a witch hazel-based toner. Well, I couldn't find any at Longs, so I just started buying witch hazel (once I found it in the first aid section). I've tried more fancy, expensive toners, and nothing works better. If you want a little antiseptic action, add some essential oil of lavender or tea tree.
I love witch hazel, too, but I can only find it in plastic bottles around here, so I'm looking at DIY options.
Also try Lotus Wei Skin Tonics. Great as a toner, but also totally replenishes the skin. Plus its got all the benefits of flower essences! www.lotuswei.com/skintonics.html
I love the hydrating mist by JUICE BEAUTY. I spray it over my face several times a day to give it a refreshing boost! It doesn't make my skin sticky like some others, it leaves my makeup looking good, and it smells good too! I LOVE THIS STUFF! I buy mine at SEPHORA!
