BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 "friends" of Biters get off online instead of buying a nonrecycled porn mag, we'll save 67 trees.

COCKTAIL FACT

The porn site F*** for Forest has raised more than $100,000 for rainforests. Not even kidding.

Can getting your porn online save the world?

The Bite

We know you aren't into porn. But your "friends" can save paper and plastic by feeding their fetishes via this neat, new doohickey called the internets. (The rest of us can get our PG-rated magazines, movies, and music online.)

The Benefits

  • Saving paper and plastic. Currently, less than 5% of paper used to produce magazines is recycled, and most DVD and CD cases are made from hard-to-recycle PVC or polystyrene.
  • Instant gratification. Downloading the new Amy Winehouse album takes 99% less effort than a trip to the record store.
  • Downloading costs less. It costs $5 less to download season three of Lost compared to buying the DVD, and you won't have to wait until the DVD's released in December to watch it.

Personally Speaking

Our parents read this email each day. We're pleading the fifth.

Wanna Try?

  • Zinio - subscribe and flip through mags on your computer.
  • iTunes - an easy place to start downloading MP3s and TV episodes. Go here to plant trees for free when you buy music ($1-$2).
  • CinemaNow - rent or buy from this library of 4,000 movies.
  • SecondSpin - if you gotta go retro, buy CDs used.

Preemptive Strikes
Shame on you!  I signed up for a tip on green living, and you filthy beasts send out a tip promoting porn! I'm unsubscribing. - Not-Prudish-Just-Proper in Pennsylvania

Dear Not-Prudish: Um, it's supposed to be a little tongue-in-cheek. The tip is actually about curtailing your use of paper and packaged products when there are digital versions available. It's not really about porn. Well, then again, porn can be sorta fun, so maybe you should actually check some out before passing judgment. - Ideal Bite

"Really?  Is this the best you can do? Are you running out of tip topics? Can't you guys come up with better ideas than this?" - Bored in Bedford

Dear Bored: We have hundreds more great ideas ready to publish and would love for you to spend some time in our tip library, checking out our past tips. We also enjoy getting tip submissions, so please visit our submission page , and send us some other topics you'd like to see us write about. - Ideal Bite

I don't read or watch porn - why can't you publish something that is relatable instead of just bad attempts at cleverness? - It's All About Me Me Me in Maryland

Dear Me Me Me: Well, I don't have a dog. Or a kid. Or a weakness for beer or a craving for tofu. I do, however, have many friends who fit those bills. On days when I can't see how the tip applies to me, I generally pass it along to those friends who could use the information to help the planet. My guess is that you probably have some porno-luvvin' friends. Spread the love. - Ideal Bite

Biter Comments...
I am totally DISGUSTED by your tip on porn. Porn is degrading to women, children & all mankind. Porn leads to a breakdown in marriages, relationships and pedophilia. The internet is the very source of porn that needs to be shut down. Your "tongue & cheek" responses indicate your IGNORANCE to the harmfull & dangerous side effects of porn. Please remove me from your mailing list IMMEDIATELY!
the porn tip was funny and it started my day with a giggle. i'm glad this site is not uptight! Although it doesn't apply to me, I'm sure the tip was useful to "others" out there...
Going to skip the porn debate here. However, ever since its rebirth as a legitimate service, we have been purchasing songs from Napster. Good variety and just store them on our PC and several MP3 players. My wife and I used to buy a lot of movies as soon as they were released on DVD. Now we get our movies from a combination of Netflix, HBO and Pay-per-view. We watch the same amount of movies but its cheaper and doesn't result in a bunch of disks that are only used once or twice. For magazines, I have never been big on that and usually just read what they make available on their websites. The only periodical we get is the local newspaper as it is the only available source of local news.
i absolutely love reading and am thankful i raised 3 children who also love reading . after busy and hectic schedules all day it is a pleasure to relax in bed and read before going to sleep . i would never ever give that pleasure up of reading books and magazines in favor of reading those things on my computor . dont we use the computor enough every day in our lifes either at our jobs or for entertainment and bill paying, schooling without now giving up that most treasured time of relaxation of reading to relax before going to sleep at night ? i understand it saves trees yadda yadda but people need to not spend so many hours a day at a computor either . to promote that reading magazines and books on a computor is better for the earth and humans than going to the library and checking out a book or buying a magazine to read and enjoy is pure nonsense . i would not recommend this to anyone, especially kids . i think people spend too much leisure time on computors when they should be exercising more . computors are great but so is exercise to be more healthy .
Forget about the porn, for any reading material, music, DVDs etc., don't forget your public library.
i am DISGUSTED that so many of you would be offended by a little SEX that you are willing to DISREGARD the fact that changes in the porn industry and how it is distributed could probably make more impact on the environment than ANYTHING the rest of us do. whether you're against it or not, it's the biggest single industry in THE WORLD. even if YOU don't like the tip, forward it to your husband or his girlfriend, because they'll find it useful.
You might take "porn" lightly but for people who's loved ones are battling a terrible addiction from an industry that that makes billions a year off of the poor suckers with fetishes they can't control and are ruining their relationships and lives, it's not a light subject, nor funny. I won't be telling anyone else about ideal bite until you get some sensitivity and a clue about what you're talking about.
Ya know, with the "adult content" warning on today's tip, why did some of the squeamish bother to read? Folks just like to gripe. Keep the funny tips, um, er, um 'coming'?
i wasnt complaining about the porn tip ... i was complaining about having to read magazines and books on line rather then go to the library to check out a book or a store to buy .. i think we all spend enough time on the computor everyday without having to read novels on line sorry if everyone thought i was complaining about the ' porn ' comment .... i think we all could use more exercise rather then more time on the computor
Given that 94% of your readers are female (1), and that around 2% of women admit to viewing porn on a regular basis (2), I am shocked less by how inappropriate today's ideal-bite was, and more by how inappropriately targeted it was to your audience. Porn (not to mention sex itself) is a very emotional topic for some. It would serve you well to consider your audience. (1) "Ideal Bite - Media Kit - Audience" http://www.idealbite.com/advertise/audience.php (2) Fetto, John. "Baser Instincts - survey on sevin sins", American Demographics. June 1, 2003. (I'm sure there are more recent studies, but I was only willing to type the word "porn" into my office computer once.)
Thanks for the chuckle this morning. The topic was clever and certainly attention-grabbing. On the bigger issue of paper savings - I'd challenge readers to ask at their favorite bookstore and their public library and find out how many magazines and books are being thrown away(NOT recycled). You'll be shocked (expecially at the ibrary) Buy gently used or even new books you or your kids want to keep or will pass on to multiple other readers. As a former teacher and librarian I completely agree there's value in holding and experiencing a great read. But, for the quick articles, recipes, celebrity scoop, or *gasps* porn that we might look at a few times then get rid of - save the paper, production, transport, and distrobution energy and get them online.
Porn is bad stuff it hurts women, children and men but it is out there. It is better not to kill trees making it.It is better if it is not displayed at the news stand. And you can control what your children, spouse and co-workers use their computers for. Some times the tips deal with disagreeable subjects but going green is all about managing or eliminating disagreeable things.
I think people are taking things out of context. It was a sensationalist headline but they aren't exactly advocating the use of online porn. Read the entire tip instead of the catchy intro before you judge. Aside from the first paragraph, this a great tip that can save you money. I personally, wouldn't read a book online. I spend a minimum of 10 hours a day online just for work purposes. I don't want my leisure time taken up by it as well. However as mentioned, short articles like news, recipes, gossip and the articles in magazines are great for the screen. It keeps waste out of landfills. If they had replaced porn with "Redbook and Cosmopolitan" there would not be any controversy in this tip. With people getting dozens of emails per day, they have to be a little creative to get you to look at things. I may not agree with every tip on this list but the distribution method and wording has little to do with that.
They are advocating porn, they even told readers the specific name of a porn site that raises money for trees,of course there were some ***in the text. And as this tip being a "tongue in cheek" thing...bad excuse. And I don't think that most people talk about their use of porn that I would forward this tip to anyone. Here's how I feel about this tip before reading other readers comments: A couple years ago I signed up for a daily green living tip via email through Ideal Bite. You may have heard of it before. The tips are written by two women, one from New York and the other from Montana. The Ideal Bite’s slogan is ‘a sassier shade of green’… Very cute and catchy I might say. But…when a reader is on the ’sign up for a tip’ page they are told they will receive short, sassy green living tips delivered to their inbox each day. Readers can also view a sample tip. The title of the sample tip available to readers is ‘Love your bottled water but feel a little naughty each time you toss the plastic in the recycle bin?’ The rest of the tip is short, sweet and a little sassy…something I would sign up for. So where is the problem? All of the tips have some sort of fun in them. Most of the fun is just in the friendly way it is written and the ‘personally speaking’ area lightens up the email, making the reader feel like the writers are speaking directly to them. The problem is that very often the writers allude to sexual conduct, being drunk, and most recently *porn.* The most recent daily green living tip sent out on August 17, 2007 was a tip to get magazines, movies and music online in order to reduce paper, packaging, etc. Although I don’t want to take too much credit for what Ideal Bite wrote on August 18th but I must say it felt like a personal attack. Just one day prior I emailed Ideal Bite explaining that I had been considering unsubscribing since they wrote a comment alluding to conduct that shouldn’t be visualized through reading a green living tip but that I had decided to go ahead and keep reading them since they are fun but that they should maybe worn about adult content in the subject of the email. When I opened my inbox the next day and saw Ideal Bite’s email with the subject Warning: Adult Content I thought it might be a reply to the message I had sent them. I opened it and there in huge letters was the title of the tip that I referred to earlier. Maybe they didn’t get my email but this tip came at poor timing…it probably would have been poor timing anytime. I have one question to ask these women, Where is your class? You’re telling me that you are going to represent yourself as a fun, sassy newsletter and then resort to your August 17th tip? That’s not sassy, that’s scandalous. There are so many categories of magazine publications, music, and movies that would fit into this tip and Ideal Bite chose *porn* to head up their green mission. Absolutely appalling. And, did these writers ever think about how serious *porn* can be and the trouble it causes for some people. Maybe a certain percentage of your readers are recovering addicts or maybe some readers are 38 with teenagers who look over their shoulder when they open emails. But the writers don’t seem to be concerned with who their readers are, they have their fab eco-fashion to think about. I’m sure they really have no concern for their reader because my feedback to them was ignored and I had affiliate ads for them. I was sending them more readers and they didn’t care! In the end, Ideal Bite has really turned out to be ruthless advertising for organic fashion. FYI: I have unsubscribed form your daily tip and I am saddened that Ideal Bite is defending themselves against this tip instead of humbling accepting they screwed up. I am also saddened that some of the readers feel that doing something for the environment (i.e. distributing porn via online) is some how better for the world. What will save the world is fighting to get this kind of stuff out of our culture, not distributed differently.
"It's not really about porn. Well, then again, porn can be sorta fun, so maybe you should actually check some out before passing judgment. - Ideal Bite" and this...? What happened to you guys?
Are you guys aware that when people sign up for this tip they are not required to enter a birthdate. Your readers could very well be under the age of 18 and this is what you send out. Watch Out! This kind of thing could very well be seen as illegal, especially since you mention porn sites. I would like to see a paler shade of sassy green from you guys.
I loved the tip...I saw it in my inbox and got so excited for a tip of a racier nature! Even though it wasn't even about porn necessarily -it was still good! I love the Tunes for Trees! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK IDEAL BITE!
gosh .. all i was trying to say is ... i love reading real books and relaxing , sometimes in bed ... especially after a long day of working. by the end of the day i do not want to have to read my book on the computor ...... i cherish all my books and they would never be found in some landfill .. maybe i should only buy books printed on recycled paper .
After reading all the callous comments seemingly from Ideal Bite, I'm going to go ahead and unsubscribe. You have no idea how damaging porn is to people, nor how destructive you are by taking this lightly. Therefore I don't want to listen to anything else you say. I would highly recommend that all others who take offence also unsubscribe. With less numbers, they'll have much less value. They can always get rich with the pornography producers.
thanks for the tip. i do have a few friends that can benefit from the it. and as i'm not the type to preach i'll make this short. There is a lot of bad porn out there (degrading to women/men etc) and there is some pretty decent porn (more focused on relationships and caring). goodvibes.com is a adult site that is for women and managed by women. if you don't like porn or anything with racy content i understand but don't pass judgements as this may apply to someone you know. keep the bites coming!!!
I thought your porn comment was completely uncalled for. You could have made the point using printed publications in general - not pandering by using a harmful and degrading problem to get someone to read the tip. However, it is your responses to people's objections that really is causing me to unsuscribe. It is clear that you feel anyone who finds this in bad taste has a "problem" and needs to open their minds. Don't dismiss people who were offended, see if you can learn something yourselves. The attitude that comes through in your responses illustrates that it is YOU who are close-minded and unwilling to listen to other perspectives. Many of us know first hand that this issue isn't funny. It degrades women, causes marriages to disintegrate and promotes the same type of self-gratification that is at the root of our lack of concern for the environment. A strong personal sense of the moral high ground is what we all need if we are going to make this planet better - ecologically and culturally as well. Thanks for listening and good luck in the future - I know you believe in your ability to make this a better place.
well i am up for the day and i can see by my mail in box this heated debate is still going on ... that is what i love about america .. we are free to have and give our own opinions. we also have freedom of the press . while sipping my morning coffee i say a silent prayer .. thankyou for letting me be born in such a wonderful place . i am hoping to finish my Harry Potter book this weekend and to look at my magazines i subscribe to as well . i also will get my housework done and get some items ready for freecycle to help someone out there who wants what i no longer need . here is to wishing all of you a fabulous weekend .
wow, that was quite the read! I am so impressed by the diversity of readers, their passion, and ability to articulate it. Personally speaking, I was a little sketched out by this tip idea when we first discussed it, but the larger point of Ideal Bite and our sometimes 'creative' take on ideas is to get people to start thinking, talking, doing...I think the tip did that, no? On a different note, my heart goes out to you if you have suffered in your lives due to porn. We meant no disrespect at all. And Jeanne, you have a nice weekend, too. :-)
thankyou Jen B. .... i hope all have done their yoga breathing by now .. cleansing breath in .... and blow it out ... aah doesnt that feel better ? less stress makes you feel better everyone . breathe in .... and exhale .... aaah . have a good one there is still plenty of hours to this weekend left to enjoy
For people who are "all natural" or looking to go that way, you sure don't accept one's natural body and natural "habits" (masterbating). Hypocritical much? The snotty femnism is conceited and uncalled for. As if none of you have ever masturbated. Ha!
well Brandy, my partner does a great job at fullfilling my desires so i dont really feel the need to' masterbate' i assure you what i do with my personnal time sounds quite the opposoite of what you do with yours according to your post . i am quite content in my life and dont feel the need to criticize others for their choices . to each their own .... if you had read my posts from the very beginning ( yes i sent more than one , ) all i was defending is reading real books and magazines rather than read them on line as i spend enough time on line with work and all and find reading in bed as a relaxing outlet at the end of my busy day . my posts were never about condeming porno .. like i said to each their own ..i love reading so much i do not find giving up books to save trees as an option . they do publish books using recycled paper and because of my love for books i need to consider that option more , i also use the library and buy second hand books as well . i do not throw away my books after reading . many times i re-read them or share them with others. i will still buy books and enjoy in my favorite chair or in bed rather than read them on line . have a nice day .
Porn would not ruin marriages if wives were not so offended by it! What you people should really be attacking is not porn but insecurity and the unloving quality of some marriages. My husband enjoys his porn, but I am OK with that because I know that he enjoys me even more, and he treats me like a princess. For those wives that do not feel so loved, I highly recommend a book called 'Love and Respect' by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. It is very helpful in addressing the real problems in many marriages.
and of course, save a tree by taking it out from your local library (or looking at it online if that is available) instead of buying your own copy. If your library does not have it, you could buy a copy and donate it to the library for others to enjoy when you are finished with it.
Jeanne - I did not say I masterbate now. My comment was...as if none of you have EVER masterbated...this means lifetime wise. Everyone pretends to be such prudes but in reality, they've all touched themselves sexually at least once in their lifetime. That makes them a hypocrite. Wives who are offended by porn, obviously aren't doing something right, why else would their men turn to porn? For the same reason most men turn to prostitutes and not even for sex, most married men go to prostitutes for blowjobs, because their wives are prudes. Get off your high horse and take care of your men. Have some freakin' fun. No one wants an uptight wife.
Brandy, and where would you get the impression i was a ' wife ' ? i said my ' partner' does a great job of fullfilling my desires.... tsk tsk
This blog post is starting to make me laugh at how it has way off topic.... This message is for Brandi...and everyone else who thinks that just because someone doesn't use porn they are uptight. Some people can be creative without a video, magazine, etc - It is Good to have an open mind... but not so Open that your Brains Fall out....
Carrie, ^5 sista .... (( hugs )) you got the idea !! with this i am signing off as i have som fun things i want to do with the rest of my Sunday . wishing all a good evening ..
Yow! As a first exposure, the porn ref is off-puttting - no matter whose tongue-in-cheek, I don't want to show up on a linked site if it is actual porn and not idealbite being cute. Can you restrict your fun to less volatile red herrings??
According to Oprah, Porn Addiction is an "epidemic". Some Social Scientists that she had on the show estimated that of the 60 million internet porn users, 15% are addicts, so that's 4 million addicts which makes an epidemic. An porn addict is defined as someone who can't control whether they watch it or not and it affects their relationships in that they'd rather watch porn than do anything else including have intimacy with a person and that they even forget how to be intimate with a real person because their sexuality is controlled by porn stimulation and that's all they want. The other 85% are considered recreational users, but who knows whether they will turn into addicts too. There is certainly a risk that they will. Also, there is a big chemical rush to sexual stimulation and being able to get that on the internet can be too easy, and when porn addicts try to refrain from "using", they get headaches, jitters and become extremely irritable (I think I sensed this in some of the comments here). Anyway, FYI
I was shocked and angered to see your bite on porn. The multi-billion dollar porn industry consistently creates images that objectify women; that present women as emotionally stunted, intellectually unchallenging and sexually available. In your attempt to be Green and cheeky you missed the fact that as long as there is economic inequality between men and women (If you think there isn't inequality consider how many women are the head of major corporations, film studios, Universities, hospitals, etc, in relation to men and whether women get equal pay for equal work across the board.), then women are the object in porn and men are the subject. Even when women create the porn themselves they have internalized the male gaze for profit. I would invite you to consider that a large percentage of women working in the sex industry today have been incested or sexually abused; their self esteem and value in the world is contingent on their sexual availability is learned behaviour coming out of a sexual abuse situation. Do we really want to support an industry that perpetuates that belief system? I choose not to view porn because I have evolved beyond the temporary titillation of a possible physiological reaction to understand I am more than my sexuality and I have a choice as to which industries I want to support financially and morally. That's not Green but, it is personal responsibility taken to a communal/political level. And isn't that what you're ultimately encouraging at Ideal Bite?
I must say that this was my first tip from ideal bite and it pretty much bites. Isn't this website supposed to promote health in all areas...how about healthy minds, bodies, marriages, and a healthy view of sex. I don't think porn fits into any of those categories. Let's save the planet and trash our minds...doesn't make much sense to me.
good morning all ... i am sitting here sipping my first morning coffee and have on my FLAC jacket just in case everyone is still at war here at the ideal bite . hope everyone has a great day. my day will be busy starting within the next hour . starting with a grueling 2 hours of physical therapy at cora rehabilitation center . gotta keep my mobility so i dont turn into a lawn ornament ya know . then after that hopefully i can find something to exercize my brain to keep those brain cells renewing and strong . i know it is impossible to solve all the worlds problems in one post but i hope all of you at the ideal bite find ways to help keep life greener to save our earth and to save our wallets as well .this debate has no wrong nor right answer ... it is a choice we all have that live in the good old USA . whatever is right for you do it . i for one do not read porn nor watch porn . that is my choice . and my God given right to make that choice . i find enough interesting things to read and watch . i am not here to sit in judgement of anyone out there . everyone has the right to judge what is right for themselves. i am content with my life and my choices and if i wasnt i would have no one to blame but myself. if it doesnt involve my personnal life why get so passionate about things we have no control over ... only worry about that which we can control in our own lives . i think that is why my blood pressure stays around 115/55 . i do not try to make others see my point of view . what is right for me i do and dont get upset if others dont agree . its my lif and i am in full control . have a good one . peace to all of you.
Okay, Jeanne...exactly who you are kidding? The fact that you took 10 minutes out of your busy morning to write a long paragraph about how you "don't try to make others see (your) point of view" means that you are trying to do just that. You are clearly advocating that others sit on the fence as you are and make their own decisions and never worry about what others are doing or what the impact of their actions are on others. That would be great if we didn't live in a society. But we do and at least some of us can be honest and state our opinions rather than being so self righteous for sitting on the fence. If you really don't care to change anyone's opinion then you won't post again...you'll go do your meditation and physical therapy and whatever you need to do to maintain that great equilibrium that you purport to have.
Wow. I don't usually read the blogs on IB much, but I'm amazed by some of the comments, and the high horses on BOTH sides of the issue. Especially since the actual content of this tip had very little to do with porn, and since there was virtually no *actual* adult content in the email (I'm sure that one "adult" site linked to has their own legal age confirmation stuff on it). Most of the links in the tip were for family-friendly stuff. Use what you can and leave the rest, people. I thought the "screw a neighbor" tip was a whole lot less classy than this one. In fact, I think plenty of the daily tips leave a lot to be desired, but I just delete them and wait for tomorrow's, because a lot of them do turn out to be extremely useful. What I want to know is: do all the tips about booze get as much flak from the folks shrieking, "you're promoting addiction!!!"? As a recovering addict, I can't safely touch booze, but I have personal responsibility for that. I have to deal with liquor stores. I have to deal with people drinking in front of me if I want to live in this society. I get a million spam emails peddling Xanax, for crying out loud! The same would be true for porn, if I were someone with a porn addiction. It's a reality in this society, and you're not getting rid of it any more than you're getting rid of alcohol. Look how well prohibition worked on that. American puritanism is so insidious. I'm amazed that so many "liberal" types (assuming that's the vast majority of the readership here) adopt a "just say no" attitude about porn. Thanks Nancy Reagan. That's a head in the sand argument. Yes, porn is a blight on society. So are drugs. So is alcohol (which incidentally is one of the most deadly intoxicant *drug* known to humankind). Prohibition doesn't work on addictions. Addicts simply become outlaws instead of getting treatment and criminals become rich selling to them. Similarly, ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away. People should have the options to use their vices as safely and as responsibly as possible, because they're going to use them regardless. As long as the problem goes unspoken and taboo, exploitation of the people involved is going to be much worse than if we could better regulate and talk about the issue. I'm amazed at how much so many of the commenters think every single tip needs to be tailored to them and their opinions. Not everyone has an absolutist view of porn. I'm glad there were at least a few sensible voices on here. Keep up the good work, Biters! Even the stuff I don't like or care about is for someone out there.
Colinski...your horse is higher than most on here I'd say. Just because you don't mind Ideal Bite using porn to sell environmentally conscious behavior doesn't mean that we all must not mind. Also, your vague allusions to past first ladies, and your assumptions about liberalism and environmental resposibility sound like pure rambling nonsense, borne out of ignorance...as is your comment about what substance and/or chemical is the most addictive "known to mankind" or whatever sort of hyperbolic and misinformed statement you were making there.
Cathrin, If you really don’t care to change anyone’s opinion then you won’t post again...you’ll go do your meditation and physical therapy and whatever you need to do to maintain that great equilibrium that you purport to have. .... im sorry but i am physically handicapped due to a disease called ' SCLERODERMA' so i have no choice i MUST go to physical therapy daily .. it is kinda like having MS ... and yes yoga helps with the depression of being handicapped it may not look like some peoples yoga .. but it works for handicapped people to keep them calm and their spirits lifted . im done sorry for trying to make a post or too and have a little amusement and plus state how i felt about the issue at hand . and yes i do have great BP and try to keep a good attitude even tho most in my situation may sit around crying to every one . crying wont fix it so why bother .
I got so upset about the porn reference I completely lost it. I put down my veal (tortured baby cow) sandwich ran outside and dumped a quart of used motor oil on a baby seal. Just kidding. Come on ladies it’s about helping keep our earth clean for our children. If we can get everybody on board, even porn buying 20somethins. It will make differences. p.s. I really do like veal, Sorry Vegans.
keeping our earth clean won't do anything for our children if our minds are in the gutter. We get the point that the tip wasn't technically about porn but the way it was introduced and brought to us wasn't expected by most to come from a green tip newsletter and I think that's why most people were taken off guard. Even the word just sounds ugly. I'm probably more green than most of the readers that the ideal bite targets but the reality is that we need to make a difference in our lives and those of our children first before we focus on the earth.
I have to admit it... I'm no prude, but I was a little taken aback by the "porn tip." I guess it was like you told a joke that much of your audience didn't get. Every comedian bombs at some point... oh well. BTW, I hate e-books. When electricity is at a premium because we don't have enough oil to generate it cheaply, the damn things will be useless.
Amen, Colinski! Thanks for offering up those thoughts. Jeanne, I'm not sure how or why you came under attack when your original comment was not pro-porn but pro-library, so thanks for your input as well. And the reminders about deep breathing. :)
thankyou Susu (( hugs )) i think the person attacking thought when i said i must go to physical therapy they mistook that as a glamor spa .. which i assure you it isnt ... sometimes the screaming seems more like torture . i still enjoy the ideal bite and the tips and believe we all need to try to live greener .... and with the box of books i acquired from freecycle yesterday i will have some great reading to enjoy as the weather gets colder . peace to all of you even those that may be having a grumpy day .
GREAT job!! Keep these bites flowing. I love your sass, your attempts to reach ALL types of people, and the entire purpose of your Bites. My boyfriend gets SO many good ideas from naughty sites online; finally I get to relate some information about sustainability and conserving to something he already understands! We BOTH have friends who will love your Bites. He's going to laugh all day at some of the posturing and blustering in these comments, like I did! Thanks for the hearty laughs everyone! We really needed our work day lightened up!
I have to say that the tip on porn surprised me but it was the comments made by the biters afterward that really bothered me. It should concern you that you offended so many in your audience. On a positive note: I am impressed that there are so many outspoken women out there who understand the dangers of pornography! And if you don't think it hurts people, I know a six year old child you can speak to whose daddy will tell you that PORNO can destroy your life and family. I'm unsubscribing because of this and the offensive comment "crazy evangelicals" that you made today. Do you live in a bubble? I am proud to be a "crazy evangelical" who doesn't think porno is funny - lightly referenced or not!!
Anyone who is complaining about their poor offended sensibilities is revealing that they don't really give a damn about helping to save the planet and humanity. They're just out there to preach and moralize and hopefully beat everyone else down to being the same bland, boring person that they are. Get real people. Most people enjoy looking at porn. And so cutting back the waste in that industry does us all a favour. How does acting all offended at the mention of naked bodies help make the world a better place? Keep your moralizing to yourself, people, and let the consenting adults and their fans do what they please. You have the choice to not look at it. Just as you had the choice to not read the tip after you realized what it was about. But it seems you all DID read the tip, huh? Seems you are all just a bit more curious than you let on to be, huh? ;)
Hi, Well, thanks for admitting that you are a porn user which is more than most of the porn defenders on here are willing to do (most of them said that they don't use it, but are defending it for other people). However, you didn't read what the detractors had to say on the subject because we do believe we are helping to save humanity in speaking against porn (really read the entries above and you'll see). Also, porn is much more than naked bodies...it's not the fact that they're naked but that they're souless (as far as porn viewers care) bodies of thousands of people involved in emotionally, and relationaly (and in rare cases physically) damaging activites. Speak to people who consider themselves "freed" from the porn industry and you'll hear stories of tortured souls. And millions of others who are viewing them are getting off on it. You really should read what even the people on this blog have to say before judging us as bland or boring. I, for example, am an adorable, hilarious, creative, and generally super-fun-to-be around chick. I believe it's wise to be monogomous and even to limit the person you get off on to be your partner...not because I'm moralizing but because it makes my relationship better, my trust deeper, and my intimacy more fulfilling. If you want to look at porn, that's fine, but it's a drug and like all drugs, your body (and mind and spirit, but they're all one in my opinion) can filter out a small amount, but there is a high risk of developing a serious problem with porn and it truly can poison your body and mind (the chemicals that porn creates in your body are similar the ones you get from real sex but more immediate and not tied to any vulerability or intimacy to bring them down to a more tolerable level for you body and soul. Anyway, I encourage you to really read through this blog at least...if not do some research of your own on porn addiction and what that industry has done to some people. All the best to you, CW
Thanks for the information! I'm glad you're trying to help people out and are passionate about that. My girlfriend agrees with your views on porn. So I shall definitely think about my views! And I'm jealous of the people who get to hang around such a fun-to-be-around person!
Awww...don't despair...seek the fun people, grasshopper....seek and ye shall find. And remember! where you find one fun person, you will probably find a few more nearby. It may not be easy in our rat race world, but it can be done. Now go, and be open to the fun people!
Add me to facebook and you can teach me how/where to meet these fun people. As it stands, right now in my quest to find fun green people, I'm stuck recording marriage proposals to Laurie David: http://one.revver.com/watch/367188
Wow, Josh...that is one crazy proposal. It's funny...I can definitely say that. She must be flattered. Well, at least you're not playing hard to get. As soon as I get a facebook account, I'll let you and all my other friends who keep inviting me know. I hear it sucks your time away and I spend too much time on the computer already for my liking. But thanks for asking, really...thanks.
STOP IT. The porn bite was not personal. I too have gone through a horrible time with my ex-husband with porn. That is why I divorced him. The ladies and staff at Ideal Bite are not advocating porn. They were trying to think of ways to get rid of more pollution. Period. So please don't take things personal when it was not meant as a full frontal attack on you and your morals. We all have a choice to not view porn, paper or otherwise. I choose not too.
