BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

If 10,000 Biters opt for an organic-cotton sheet set rather than a nonorganic one, we'll avert the weight of 263 king-sized mattresses in pesticides.

COCKTAIL FACT

Researchers at Kingston University in the UK found that an unmade bed is less appealing to dust mites, since the linens retain less moisture.

How can you snooze...and win?

The Bite

Hit the organic sheets. Ultracomfortable and pesticide-free, organic sheets'll make you dread the sound of your alarm clock more than ever, but at least you'll sleep more soundly knowing your duvet cover didn't contribute to the genetic mutation of fish.

The Benefits

  • Comfy-coziness. With these sheets, you won't even have a wrong side of the bed to roll out of.
  • Resting assured, with no bad dreams about pesticides harming the planet and creating genetic resistance in certain species (nonorganic cotton farming uses more pesticides than any other crop).
  • Options for every price range. There are organic options for both budget Biters and Biter billionaires.

Personally Speaking

Jenifer has an amazing power whereby she can recognize the thread count of a sheet just by touching it (OK, sometimes).

Wanna Try?

  • Anna Sova Eco-Silk - made with eco-friendly dyes and processing; in seven rich colors ($33 -$410).
  • Lauren Spa - Ralph Lauren's first organic-cotton bedding collection; in eight different muted colors ($30-$300).
  • Target Organic Sheet Set - Tar-zhay's affordable, 250-thread-count, organic-cotton sets; in four soft colors. Also: bamboo options ($30-$60).

Snuggle Up
The first time I bought my own pair of sheets, I was 26 years old. I'd been living away from home for eight years, and probably slept in a different bed each year, between dorm rooms, dodgy collegiate flophouses, and apartments after my foray into the work world. But for whatever reason, sheet-buying was just something that I let my mom do for me. Never once occurred to me that I could buy my own.

Ah, how the mighty have fallen. Now, I love to buy sheets. In fact, I'm sort of a sheet connoisseur, and a trip to the linen aisles of department stores is nearly a religious pilgrimage for me. Thus, I'm quite pleased that there are now organic options popping up in those aisles.

Kitting out a bed in fab linens and fluffy pillows is just one of those strange joys in my life - ranks up there with champagne and face cream and laundry and babies' necks.

Biter Comments...
I found this article very interesting. However I was quite disapointed about the choice of vendor you gave us. I went online and found so many other vendors with much reasonable prices. Here are to name a few: http://www.ezoetic.com http://www.kushtush.com/organiccottonduvets.htm http://www.livingincomfort.com/doincwiorcod1.html and that's just to name a few. So I am not understanding how you just stoped on Target and Ralph Lauren. It seems that a company like yours would have put more attention to little companies rather than chains.
Here are a few more sites. Plus many Whole Foods Markets sell organic towels and linens. New things are in due to the holidays. http://www.gaiam.com/retail/2/Bedroom http://www.rawganique.com/Bedsheetsblankets.htm http://www.thefindgreen.com/qq-Organic-cotton-bedding Happy sleeping!
Sure, organic bed linens are all well and good for those who can afford them. "Affordable" is a very subjective word. If you can afford something, then it's "affordable," if you can't, then it's not, and, sorry, but even the least-expensive organic sheets aren't "affordable" for me.
I agree with Linda A. If I could afford those kind of sheets I would already have them. I suffer from a lot of allergens and an eco-friendly home and/or sheets would be a luxury to me and all other allergy sufferers.
