Been on the lookout for some great green shows?

The Bite:

Put away the binoculars, and turn on Sundance Channel's mix of eco-themed TV, The Green. Every Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, you'll get smart, engaging TV. Shows include in-depth docs and a 13-part series (Big Ideas for a Small Planet) on topics including food, fashion, recycling, and power; eco-celeb profiles on people such as Kevin Bacon and Kerry Washington (Ecoists); and features about green entrepreneurs and their innovative companies (Ecobiz) - something to a-peel to just about any fledgling eco-sleuth.

Company Background

Sundance Channel premiered The Green last year as the first all-environmental primetime broadcast (and no, we're not talking 3 hr of Nature reruns). The second season started this month with cool, next-gen content. The Green is presented by actor-turned-activist Robert Redford (heard of him?), who's "been an environmental advocate for more than 35 years. Sundance Channel's activity in the green space is a natural evolution of Redford's commitment," says Kirk Iwanowski, Sundance Channel's Executive Vice President Marketing, Branded Entertainment, and Sponsorship. These shows will keep your eyes wide open.

Why Care?

  • It's spreading the green word. These eco-shows are actually entertaining, not just informative - for example, tonight's Big Ideas for a Small Planet is on how Generation Y is blending environmentalism with consumerism.
  • It's putting its message into practice. In addition to providing reusable water bottles and direct deposit for employees (avoiding paper checks), the Sundance Channel opts for green marketing materials and even created a line of messenger bags made from old billboards to advertise The Green.
